Create an Amazon Product without API¶
To manually add an Amazon product without Amazon PA API connection to the Products section, click on the “Add New” button on the overview page or in the main menu.
Click “Create Custom Product”¶
Click the link “Create Custom Product”. This link is also available when you are connected to the Amazon PA API.
Enter Data¶
You will then see a form where you can enter the values of the product. Some of the fields will be filled automatically during the input process.
Title¶
Enter the product title at the top, just as you would enter a title for any other WordPress post.
Affiliate URL¶
Enter your affiliate URL for this product in this field. It is recommended to include your tracking ID, even if ASA2 can insert it automatically.
Note
Based on this URL, ASA2 will automatically try to detect the country and ASIN and insert them into the respective fields.
The easiest way to get the URL is to use Amazon’s SiteStripe tool, which you can find as a logged in user on the top of the Amazon product page. It is recommended to use the “Full Link”.
Product Image¶
It is possible to provide the product image in three different sizes. Enter the URLs of the images in the respective fields if you want to work with external URLs. You can also use the Featured Image function to upload an image. Then it will usually be placed on your server (if you don’t use a CDN) and loaded from there. This brings up legal issues that you should be aware of.
Note
Due to advantages in loading speed and regarding the legal situation, the use of external URLs is recommended over local images.
On the product page you can click on the image to open a larger version. Right-click on the image and select “Copy Image Address” to copy the URL of the image.
Or you can use the SiteStripe Image feature and copy the image address from the preview image as shown in this screen capture:
This URL you can enter in the field “Large image URL”:
Normally, the Amazon image URL includes the size as a number, like the 1000 in this example. If that’s the case, adjust the number for the smaller sizes, like 150 and 75.
Price¶
Enter the normal price and, if available, the offer price in the price fields. The currency results from the selected country.
Rating¶
Enter the rating of the product and the total number of reviews in these fields if you want to use a product template that displays the star rating.
Country¶
Here you can select the country where the product is located. In case of an Amazon product, this should correspond to the country of the Amazon store where the affiliate link comes from.
Note
Based on the Affiliate URL, ASA2 tries to detect the country automatically.
The country is necessary to display the right currency.
ASIN¶
A special characteristic of Amazon products is the entry of the ASIN, which represents the Amazon product number. Entering this is recommended so that ASA2 can automatically update this product via API if you should get access to the Amazon PA API later on.
Note
Entering it is highly recommended to be able to update the product via API at some point.
More Info URL¶
The More Info URL can be used to display another button next to the buy button in the product box, which leads for example to a product review on your website.
Publish¶
Finally click the “Publish” button to save the product.
The product will appear on top of the Products section list:
Embed¶
Click the “Embed” link below the title, to get list of example shortcodes you can use to embed the product in your pages.
